Night cries characterize the lives of children and newborns. For this reason, it is important to understand what is the cause of crying. There are two types of crying:

Recall: caused by the discomfort that compromise the sleep of your child such as pain, colic, breathing difficulties, dirty diaper, hunger or thirst.

REM (Rapid Eye Movement) crying phase: This is an unconscious crying caused by a dream (or nightmare).

To distinguish the two phases, it is essential to pay special attention to factors that are easily identifiable in the child. During non-REM sleep, in fact, the muscles are completely relaxed, while in the REM phase the child is particularly agitated, even moving the eyes below the eyelids. It is important to consider the situation of each newborn individually and pay particular attention to his health conditions, to better understand what is the real cause of crying. For example, if the newborn has a cold, the crying will probably be caused by breathing difficulties.

If the baby could have his first teeth, the gum disease could lead to a night cry, while if the child’s health conditions are good, the crying could be caused by a dream or nightmare in REM phase. Sleeping properly, why is important

Sleeping properly during the night is essential not only for adults, but even more for children. During sleep, in fact, come into play many mechanisms of growth that could be compromised if a child or newborn cannot spend a peaceful night. One of the essential elements that is produced during sleep is growth hormone. A child who sleeps without interruption and for a reasonable number of hours develops his physical and mental potential to the fullest. The somatotropin can only be produced in deep sleep conditions.

As a result, if the baby crying in sleep, it cannot enter in a phase of total rest to allow the gland to produce the hormone.  The gland works best during night sleep, however, even in deep sleep conditions during the day there may be a production of growth hormone in smaller quantities. In qualitative terms, three hours of daytime sleep do not provide the same benefits as three hours of night time sleep. Moreover, a child who sleeps at night , let his parents a peaceful time too, reducing personal and couple STRESS. The benefits affect the whole family in general, and not just the child himself.

Put your child to sleep

If a child cannot sleep at night, the cause is often to be found in incorrect practices that are carry out the day by parents ,especially in the moments before going to bed. The number of hours a child can spend in bed varies from person to person. Here some advice that, if properly implemented, can greatly improve sleep.

Do not help your baby fall asleep: One of the mistakes made most of all parents is to lie down with their children to try to make them fall asleep, read a fairy tale while they are already in the bed, cuddle them until they fall asleep, etc.. All this should happen before going to the bed. The child must immediately understand that in the bed you just sleep, and a kiss or a cuddle is more than enough to allow the child to fall asleep independently.

Try to set up a routine: The activities before bedtime should be similar, or better, the same every day. This way you will find a routine that work and it will be easier to put your baby to bed and get him to sleep. If the routine is interrupted, you may create “circumstances” that make it more difficult to set your baby’s habits again. For example, if you put your baby to bed every day at 9:30 p.m., but one day you decide to let him play until 10:30 p.m., the next day it will be difficult for you to put him to bed at 9:30 p.m.

Use natural remedies to relax your baby: After a year of life, if you can’t really get your baby to sleep. Try giving your baby some natural products to help him sleep. These remedies should never be given if the baby crying in sleep.

Melatonin is widely used for this purpose. However, it is essential to consult the paediatrician, and especially to use this solution only in extreme cases, where everything else has not worked. Always use common sense: Although doctors, psychologists and the entire scientific community have drawn up small rules or advice to follow, you must always use common sense.
